2021-02-17 Saved Game Folder, Lost Atlantis, INI File
Posted by: Haxus - 02-17-2021, 07:47 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (5)

Saved Game Folder
The location of the saved game files can now be configured in settings. The default location is 'Hazeron Starship/Saved Games'.

The previous location of the files was 'Hazeron Starship/Temporary/Solo'. That folder also contains cached files.

To continue with your current saved games, you can either redirect the saved games folder to that location or you can move the files to the new location. The files to move are named: A10*, sU.*, and sA.*.

What are these files?

The current game is stored in two files named A1001100 and A1010101. This contains all of the avatars shown when you get to the avatar selection screen.

Check point saves are stored in pairs of files named sA.something and sU.something.

When a check point save is restored, the sA.something file replaces the A1001100 file and the sU.something file replaces the A1010101 file, then the game starts normally.

Lost Atlantis
The Lost Atlantis scenario required a couple of changes.

  • Atlantis now starts with 100 cryo travellers.
  • Atlantis is no longer privately owned by your avatar. I forgot this would make fuel and repairs very expensive.
  • Crew species now matches your avatar, as intended.

INI File
There is now a -ini command line option when running the game to force settings to be stored/loaded using a .INI file, rather than the registry on Windows. On Linux the option is redundant because settings are natively stored in -ini format.

I have not tried this because I use Linux. I don't know where the file will be stored on Windows. The name should be 'Hazeron Starship.ini'.

Story Hint Button
Story Dialog window now has a button to request a hint.

Story now replies with a message when the script does not provide a hint. Previously it said nothing, which was a bit confusing.

Missing Villagers
Started a game. Exited. Restarted later and my villagers are mostly gone.

Fixed by a previous bug fix, I think. I have not been able to reproduce it since then.

2021-02-16 Startup Scenarios, Story Dialog, Sounds, Bug Fixes
Posted by: Haxus - 02-16-2021, 08:09 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (5)

Startup Scenarios
Several items in my to-do list related to game startup.

When creating a new avatar, you now choose one of four scenarios to start the game.

  • Reach for the Stars - You start at an indigenous village on a habitable homeworld. Targoss arrives to give a tutorial. Rocket Training starts when your city is ready. An asteroid approaches.
  • Citizen of the Galaxy - You start as a citizen of an existing empire, at the capitol, any city, or the emperor, in that order of precedence.
  • Savage State - You start on a habitable homeworld in the wilderness. Targoss and Rocket Training never start. There is no asteroid.
  • Lost Atlantis - You start as captain of the starship Atlantis, lost in space and time. No trace of your former civilization exists.
A script function avatarInitScenario was added to test for this. It is in the wiki.

Story Dialog
The comm is inadequate when characters in a story say lots of stuff.

A Story Dialog window now appears when communications associated with a story are received on the comm. No changes to existing story scripts are required. It operates automatically.

Story choices are presented as buttons on the dialog, making them easy to select.

There is a setting on the Windows page of the Settings window to disable use of the Story Dialog.

This does not change the operation of the comm window, which continues to operate as it did before.

It would be appropriate to place Story Hint and Drop Story buttons there. I'll do that.

Saved Games
The function to clear saved games does not work.

A few changes related to saved games were made.
  • Fixed the function to clear saved games.
  • Fixed update of saved games list when cleared.
  • Replaced the dialog with a popup menu, when clicking on a saved game. Options: Restore, Delete, Delete All Save Points.
Sound Shutdown
Closing the game is kinda weird. Sounds seem to hang for a while, I assume it is the local server saving or shutting down in the background but it doesn't show it in any way. If this ends up taking a long time, it might be an issue if there is no progress bar or something to show that it is shutting down still. Or maybe at least terminate all sounds when this happens.

Moved shutdown of OpenAL sooner in the shutdown sequence.

Animal Sounds
Sounds of subterranean animals get really annoying over time. The player can do nothing about them, so it is just weird.

Every individual sound effect can be adjusted on the Sounds page of the Settings window.

Flag Bug
Using a flag as an empire-less avatar doesn't open the Create Empire dialog.

Fixed.

Officers Take Crew Berths
Requesting officers to board might have them take free crew berths instead of officer berths. Likely a side-effect of recent NPC class changes.

Fixed.

Capitol Construction
When not part of an empire, the Capitol building button on the Construction window doesn't look like it is disabled. Maybe the button and its icon should become gery so it is more clear?

Construction buttons now grey the icon when disabled.

Solo Chat From Id
Remove From Id from chat messages in solo game. This helps hide the fact that story characters may return later with a different id.

Done.

  Avatars all gone
Posted by: Kami - 02-13-2021, 03:39 AM - Forum: Prerelease Bug Reports - Replies (1)

My avatars and save games all just disappeared. I saved, closed down the game normally, then when I opened again, none of my avatars were there. 2 avatars wiped, 150+ blueprints unpublished, even my saved .chr avatar files are deleted.
I think possibly it could have something to do with the fact that I'd just traveled to the center of the galaxy and added 1000+ systems to my star map. Apart from that, I did nothing outside of my home system.

Player position is saving in space
Posted by: Celarious - 02-12-2021, 04:57 PM - Forum: Prerelease Bug Reports - No Replies

Sometimes when closing the game in a way which causes it to save, such as pressing the X button, you will be in space when you load back in. I was on the surface of the planet previously. As a result, you suffocate and respawn immediately upon loading in.

This happens on the Windows 64bit client, and can be reproduced.

Simulation mode in the design studio results in a flickering white screen, simulation does not start.

This is noted in the 64-bit Windows client.

  Spaecraft Helm input lag
Posted by: jakbruce2012 - 02-12-2021, 01:30 AM - Forum: Prerelease Bug Reports - Replies (4)

The title says it.
There seems to be a 1-2 second input lag on the spacecraft helm.
Movement takes a bit to start, and takes about that long to stop after a control is released.

This is noted on the 64-bit Windows client. Does anyone experiencing this on other OSs?

Can you please add build volume to the planet details in the system map so we can see how much there is before we land?

  Steam overlay can't strech properly

Steam overlay stretches from bottom left to match the size of selected window instead of covering whole main window. It works fine without undocked windows.

  OpenGL Compatibility
Posted by: Kastuk - 02-04-2021, 09:43 PM - Forum: Prerelease Bug Reports - Replies (13)

Old Shores of Hazeron still running Primeval without problem.

New Hazeron Starship cannot run the scene.

When I trying to press New Avatar III creation, I got OpenGL Compatibility Failure on rendering of 3d scene.

I have Win7 and two graphic cards on my old notebook: integrated Intel HD Graphic 3000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX. Both have latest drivers from 2016 and 2018 years.

Did find that Intel card can support only OpenGL 3.1 max.

NVIDIA supporting up to OpenGL 4.1
Specifying this card to the game exe and "OpenGL rendering GPU" in NVIDIA Control Panel has no effect.
=====
Trying to run Designer make same error with a crash, which can be debugged by Visual Studio
There's written:
Unhandled exception at 0x000007FEDC5BA360 (Qt5Gui.dll) in Hazeron Starship.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000000000008.

Debug log, when I just run Hazeron Starship and trying to create avatar, then Abort message.
