  Fake Window Decals
Posted by: Deantwo - 09-02-2018, 03:44 PM - Forum: Arena of Ideas - No Replies

Currently a "fake window" is a normal window with 0% transparency. This is kinda confusing and silly to work with.

It would be much easier if "fake windows" were simply decals we could add on top of a textured face.

For the sake of backward comparability, I guess we could just have both.

  Sea Chest Empty
Posted by: Deantwo - 09-02-2018, 01:29 PM - Forum: Closed Bug Reports - Replies (1)

When I go to look in my sea chest, I don't see anything in it, just empty.

Very much hoping all my stuff isn't gone. T_T

  Stuck in ground upon respawn
Posted by: zalphor - 09-02-2018, 10:17 AM - Forum: Closed Bug Reports - Replies (1)

After crashing into the terrain at the airport destroying my ship and killing me i was respawned into the ground at my capitol building at a location other than my spawn point. only my helmet is visible upon moving my camera, no movement is possible.

Upon recalling i was moved deeper into the terrain twords the street on another side of the capitol building. Helmet is still the only thing visible.

Empire is now enemy and capitol building target text is red. No government button on the sidebar.

My bio now says,
Person
ZWFZYI
Experience: 0
wormholes explored: 0
No player image is shown.

Planet Banvalza Cetros Beta III
Player ID: ZWFZYI

Thoughts log attached...

I have succeeded in unstucking myself by teleporting to my alternate character Zalphor. Government tab is restored, empire is friendly again, bio and body exist again.

  Recall terrain collision death.
Posted by: zalphor - 09-02-2018, 09:58 AM - Forum: Prerelease Bug Reports - Replies (1)

At approximately 4:30AM after ascending to a station in an old design ship with the front hangar door open, from a habitable planet(my home planet), i began taking suffication damage from vacuum and the entire ship lost pressure.

Upon dying and regaining control of the ship i ordered the crew to land on the planet as the pilot spins the ship when commanded to land at an airport. upon entering the atmosphere i began taking taking toxic atmosphere suffocation damage.

After landing the ship on a different portion of the planet, stopping all orders, then releasing my captains berth, and pressing the recall button i was collided with the terrain. receiving 114489371 hits of bludgeon damage. 10 absorbed.
After respawning no damage was taken.

Thought log attached.

  Cannot change production processes.
Posted by: zalphor - 09-02-2018, 09:39 AM - Forum: Closed Bug Reports - No Replies

at approximately 4:00 AM my electronics factory, and weapons factories would not allow me to remove or change processes. stuck with several hundred workers on one process disallowing me adjust the amount of work on that process. The processes worked and materials were used and produced but could not be changed. About 15-30 minutes later this stopped occurring.

  2018-09-01 Server Lockup, Server Crash
Posted by: Haxus - 09-01-2018, 10:09 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (1)

Server Lockup
A persistent lockup is disturbing the harmony of the server grid. It seems to move from one server to another. This demands attention before Tuesday.

Fixed a deadlock when checking environment information on an atom, when testing to see if any turbo lift doors were blocked open before opening a new one.

Server Crash
A server crashed.

Traced a crash to some code attempting to close automatic doors on a ship. The code discovered a design studio instance and asserted because it could not determine what room it was in.

Ships Built In The Neutral Zone Are Hostile
Posted by: zslayern - 09-01-2018, 12:20 PM - Forum: Closed Bug Reports - Replies (6)

^Title
The ship was built on an empire shipyard, yet upon mousing over the ship highlights a red name.
The "Follow Unit" command on the Mission Transmitter shows the stance of the spacecraft as "Enemy" and its empire "Neutral", despite being unable to damage it because of neutral zone laws.
Opening the door prompts "The door will not open" while locking it says "Only officers, crew and troops can lock or unlock the door."
The location is: Spacecraft Factory at 19.66°W 12.49°N, Sentinel of Xhotl, Xhotl Alpha IV, Xhotl(-3.5, 3.2, 1.4), Xhotl Sector (-1, -100, 1), Veil of Targoss.

  Minimum City Population for Rankings
Posted by: Mr. Mortius - 09-01-2018, 03:25 AM - Forum: Arena of Ideas - No Replies

There should probably be a minimum population for a city before the world it is on is added to the empire rankings page. This will prevent simply spamming capitals on planets, unless future decay mechanics will prevent this.

  Increase Terrain Collision Damage Threshold
Posted by: Mr. Mortius - 09-01-2018, 03:20 AM - Forum: Arena of Ideas - Replies (1)

"Hit by collision with terrain! 2 hits of Bludgeon damage absorbed."

I keep getting these messages while simply walking around on planets. Earlier, I was landing a very large ship at a reasonable speed, and it was instantly destroyed by a collision with the terrain.

It would be nice if terrain collision damage only occurred in extreme cases, so that it fulfills the function of preventing absurd things like falling from space onto a planet, while not becoming a nuisance for normal gameplay.

  The Expanse
Posted by: Haxus - 08-31-2018, 10:37 PM - Forum: Cantina - Replies (6)

The Expanse has been a very good show we've been watching on Amazon Prime TV. The first two seasons are free. You have to pay $30 for season 3. The fourth season is under contract to be made but not done yet. After the first two seasons, we did not hesitate to pony up for season three.

The Expanse is set 200 years in the future. The solar system is heavily colonized but no FTL drive has been developed yet. There are three main factions, the Earthers, the Martians, and the Belters.

They grabbed me early on when a rail gun punched a hole through a ship during a battle. Someone slapped a metal plate over the hole and pulled out a huge menacing looking black gun. It was a glue gun, lol.

The story is deep and detailed. Space is depicted as a dangerous brutal unforgiving place.

Things I found interesting.

  • Rocket drives. Their ships use basic rockets and act like rockets, turning their butt to decelerate toward their destinations and flying realistic orbits. Their drives are slightly advanced, with the development of the "Epstein drive", which grants them super fuel efficiency.
  • Newtonian physics. If their ships aren't accelerating, people are weightless inside. People aboard ships are constantly brutalized by the effects of rocket drive acceleration. Spin is used at space stations to provide simulated gravity. They make heavy use of "grav boots" to gloss over weightlessness when it isn't a factor.
  • No energy weapons. Their ships have rail guns, missiles and swiveling Gatling guns for missile defense. People carry large caliber pistols and machine guns.
  • Mormons. Who puts Mormons in a sci fi thriller?
If you are turned off by foul language or gruesome death, this is not the show for you.

I liked the engine contrail effect on their Epstein drives. It would not be appropriate for a gravity drive. However, the Epstein drive would be an interesting advancement over a standard rocket drive. I wonder if they would mind if I called it that? The Epstein drive would probably take on the fuel efficiency of the current rocket drive module, which would then become much less efficient; it is currently very efficient.
