Disks are used as a media for spacecraft designs, building designs, spacecraft missions, and officer logs.
It is possible to burn a disk with only one thing at a time, and once burned it becomes read-only.
If a design was published as "Use Once" in the library, and then burned to disk, the disk will be destroyed upon construction.
Blank disks are made at a electronics factory using either metal or plastic.
Spacecraft design disks are created using a blank disk at a design studio, or at the blueprint exchange.
After loading a design in the design environment, the option to "Save Spacecraft to Gear..." will be available under the File dropdown.
If attempting to burn from the blueprint exchange, select a design and click the Copy to Gear... button at the top-left.
A spacecraft design disk can be used at a spacecraft factory and arena while in the inventory.
Building design disks are created using a blank disk at a design studio, or at the blueprint exchange.
After loading and finalizing a design in the design environment, the option to "Save Building to Gear..." will be available under the File dropdown.
If attempting to burn from the blueprint exchange, select a design and click the Copy to Gear... button at the top-left.
A building design disk can be sold to a design studio by the architect to publicize it for empire-wide usage, or it can be used by the holder while it is in their inventory.
Note: The blueprint does not have to be burned onto media such as a disk to be used. Simply publishing to the exchanges is enough to make the design select-able in the Construction (F11
) window.
Mission Disks can be created from aboard a spacecraft using the "Burn Mission Disk" button on the Spacecraft Mission window (F9).
The mission can then be loaded from the disk using the Load Mission and Add Mission options.
