Shovels are used to assist building constructions and processes, such as decreasing the time spent per cycle for mines. They are also required for some power plants to function and for the construction of wells.

The shovel is the only tool that has no use in spacecraft damage control. It is also abnormally large compared to other tools and doesn't fit in an utility pouch.
