Emotes are symbols, acronyms and words constructed of typed characters, used for the purpose of expressing emotion. Here are some common examples.

:) = Smile
:( = Sad
lol = Laugh Out Loud
rofl = Rolling On Floor Laughing

When entered into the comm window, emotes change the facial expression of an avatar. Refer to the visage topic for more information.
