Natural gas is a byproduct of geological processes deep in the core of a planet. A well can drill for natural gas on most worlds.
Natural gas is only found in conjunction with oil and harvesting it means to sacrifice a potential oil source. Along with that, all processes that uses natural gas can easily be replaced with other resources or processes. This commonly leads to totally disregarding natural gas as a resource.
One interesting use of natural gas is to convert it into hydrogen.
