Currently there is no special behavior implemented for helicopter flight, this means that they preform almost identically to spacecraft vehicles. The helicopter will fly straight much like a small plane would once acceleration is sufficient, this means that a clear runway is very advantageous to have.
One advantage of helicopters is their speed while traveling in an atmosphere, which while faster than traveling on the ground, is never so fast as to risk destruction by atmospheric stress.
Helicopters can not fly in atmosphere-less environments, such as in space and on moons.
