Maneuver drives are the slower-than-light engines of your spacecraft. No spacecraft can survive in space without a working and fueled maneuver drive.
Maneuver drives require the engineering console to be regulated, as without one the helmsman has a significantly higher chance of crashing.
The maneuver drive also generates an artificial gravity field on the spacecraft. This means that while not on the surface of a planet there will be no gravity on board if the maneuver drive is offline.
An important note to remember about stations is that if the maneuver drive is turned off, the station will start falling from orbit and explodes shortly after.
Maneuver Drive Types
The type of maneuver drive can be selected in the design.
Maneuver drive type can also be changed using Maneuver Drive System Modules after the ship has been constructed.
Gravity Drive
Gravity Drives are the primary engines of space faring vessels. They are produced using Grav Couplings which require resources found on all moons.
Gravity Drives are the next step up from the Rocket Drive, and allow for more advanced maneuvering in space. They are also cheaper to make.
Rocket Drive
Rocket Drives are the same TL as gravity drives (1) and can be made without the need for Eludium, making it ideal for any empire's first ship to make their first moonbase.
Rocket Drives burn Hydrogen directly, rather than using the capacitor.
The disadvantage to Rocket Drives are that they are affected more by gravity wells and are a lot more expensive to make resource wise.
