The hold is where commodities are stored as cargo onboard a spacecraft. If the room is accessible, it also provides access to all cargo on the spacecraft, except its fuel (hydrogen).
Cargo Access
While inside the hold of a spacecraft it is possible to transfer commodities between the the hold and the personal inventory using the Cargo (F5) window's Hold tab.
Security
It is recommended to always restrict access to the hold of a spacecraft. For example using crew doors.
Hold Damage
When the hold is damaged there is a chance that some or all of the cargo in it is lost.
