This is to prevent people from bringing items and money in or out of the non-PvP galaxies.

It also puts a little bit of a limit on the berth-a-port "feature". It exists as a necessary evil to enable avatars to join their friends in a game space that is so large they might otherwise never find each other. It was never intended to be used as a form of transportation. It could get nerfed at some point in the future.

Berth-a-Port, or Port-a-Berth, is an in-game term for using the spacecraft berth system and the Recall Home ability in such a way that you can instantly travel to anywhere in the game universe without actually needing to traveling there in a spacecraft.

While mostly unnecessary for visiting other players since teleporting is easier, Berth-a-Porting is still useful for quickly traveling between spacecraft in your empire.

How to use

To use the Berth-a-Port tactic your destination has to have a spacecraft with a free berth. Secondly you need to be able to acquire a berth on the spacecraft remotely, either through an officer or another player on the spacecraft assigning you one.

Using an Officer

  1. Hail the Communication's fleet channel in order to open a private channel to spacecraft
  2. Change to the spacecraft's private channel
  3. Request a berth aboard the spacecraft
  4. Use the Recall Home ability
  5. You are now aboard the spacecraft

Using another Avatar

  1. Avatar A needs to be aboard a spacecraft where he/she holds the captain's berth or an officer berth
  2. Avatar B request berth on any channel Avatar A is monitoring
  3. Avatar A accept Avatar B's berth request and assign any berth
  4. Avatar B use the Recall Home ability
  5. Avatar B is now aboard Avatar A's spacecraft

Returning Home

To return home from far away, either berth-a-port to a spacecraft in the area, or release the spacecraft berth and Recall Home.
Using Recall Home without having a spacecraft berth will result in the home city or empire capital being the recall destination.

For more information on the Recall Home ability, see the Spawning page.

Common uses

Common uses include, but are not limited to:places

  • Instant travel between distant ships
  • Trading of small amounts of items between avatars or ships
  • Moving of alt avatars

Notes

  • Berth-a-Porting has been made mostly obsolete by the introduction of teleport invites.[1]
