The asteroid is an event that starts when a new avatar enters the universe. Their starting world will be in danger and need saving.
Time Until Impact
The time hinted at was that the new avatar has a week to get into space and blowup the asteroid.
The asteroid is supposedly explained by the stargazer of a village.
Impact
Nothing is known about what happens if the asteroid impacts the world.
