The fire, whether it be a campfire or a burning barrel, is a primitive source of light and warmth.
The campfire can be handcrafted using a log or two hay. The burning barrel can be hand crafted using one oil.
Once crafted it will drop to the ground, because it is too big and hot to carry. It does not produce light in un-breathable atmospheres. Attempts to hand craft a fire in water or unbreathable atmosphere will fail.
Wild animals will ignore threats and prey near a fire, but wild animals will however still pursue threats or prey into the area of a fire or tepee. Some wild animals can however become scared of the fire and flee.
