The indigenous population is the sentient species that inhabit a world. All habitable worlds in the habitable orbit zone have an indigenous population.
DNA
The DNA of the indigenous population is determined the first time a village is encountered or a town square is constructed, whichever comes first.
The DNA of the indigenous population can be changed by using a genesis device.
Cities
The indigenous population affects any city where the population's DNA is not the same as the indigenous DNA.
- If the two DNAs have the same phylum and ecological role, the city's population will be a mixed breed of the two.
- If either the phylum or ecological role is different, the city will receive a -1 morale penalty.
