The WGF
The Founding
The West Galactic Federation was an alliance founded in October 2012 by Stellar Syndicate after they migrated from the Main Cluster to the West Cluster (-X,Y,Z) of the galaxy. Stellar Syndicate invited three of the already existing Western empires to join the WGF. Altaran and The Nibelung, both already close allies, decided to join the Federation. The third empire, Loronath, declined the invitation as they were content in their isolation. With 3 very qualified empires already joined together as the West Galactic Federation, WGF decided to invite a few choice Eastern empires to abandon their space and join WGF in the West. Many older empires such as Rik'Tan Hegemony and Tresnoth Republic, which had already mostly stepped down from the game decided to join Syndicate.
Other Empires, such as Corrundian, Regime, Red Dragon Star Kingdom and the Kingdom of Thuul joined the WGF just before or just after Pan Galactic War 2.
The Purpose
The purpose of the WGF was to create a haven for more veteran players to come together and play, and to give the Western empires a united voice and presence in the galaxy so that they could be better respected and represented on the stage of galactic politics. A secondary purpose was also to control and facilitate the colonisation of the West of the galaxy, which until now had a tiny population compared to the East, where the main cluster and coreward clusters were located. In the first two aims, the WGF undoubtedly succeeded, and was able to unite many of the veteran players and western empires into a partnership which not only managed to control the east, but exercise control over the entire galaxy.
Prosperity
With the unification of so many players and empires, the WGF very quickly rose up through the empire standings to the Number 2 spot, a few dozen sectors shy of the Number 1 spot, which was occupied by the Klingon Empire, and their vassals and minions in the Klingon Alliance. Quickly, a cold war emerged and tensions quickly escalated on both sides. The Klingon Alliance was seemingly in control of the main cluster, and exercising a rather brutal system of recruiting empires in order to pressgang other empires into the Alliance by force. The WGF appealed to the Klingon Empire to stop abusing the newbie empires of the main cluster. Only 20 days after the formation of the WGF, a massive war was on the horizon.

Diplomatic efforts failed, and the Klingon Empire continued their abuses even after being asked several times to stop by Syndicate, WGF and Empire Rocket.
WGF Declares War on Klingon Empire, Rumia Empire and their allies; in order to stop a severe culture of noobstomping being born in the East.
Empire Rocket's Leader Giovanni was asked in private messages a couple of days before the war started not to join if something were to happen, since it would end badly for them. The WGF also demanded that the Public Shipyard ER provided back then to be closed in order to ensure that the Klingon Alliance did not receive high tech ships. Giovanni joined despite the warnings, honouring it's alliance with the Klingons. What followed was 4 days of heavy fighting, where the Klingons and Empire Rocket lost all of their colonies in the Core of the galaxy, and Klingon Empires allies were systematically picked off one by one to reduce morale. Over the last 3 days, the Klingon Empire was pressured and asked to sign a surrender as WGF forces attacked further and further into Klingon space. Several raids destroyed entire Klingon fleets and temporarily put their shipyards out of action.
On day 7, the Klingon Empire and Essayons empire surrendered and had their territory cut by half. Rumia Empire had refused to surrender and been destroyed. Empire Rocket had lost large amounts of territory, and was rocked by a regime change after Giovanni stepped down from Office.
The West Galactic Federation had beaten almost everything the East could throw at it at that time. The dubiously named Pan Galactic War 2 was over.
The Waning of WGF
Soon after the establishment of the WGF, long range travel was broken and maimed by a series of updates intended to stop AI Officers from being able to fly through unexplored space. Unfortunately, this severely limited officer travel even through pretty well explored space due to the way the game handled system/sector transitions and exploration. This essentially put a full stop to easy intergalactic travel, relegating it to a handful of player crewed ships moving back and forth rather than entire fleets.
Soon after the end of PGW II, Haxus removed the Galaxy Viewer, attempted to fix several bugs/exploits, implemented the shiny new Star Map and then went deathly quiet between the end of November 2012 and February 2013. The combination of the removal of non-exploit, non-meta game meant to find empires in the galaxy, and the removal of easy long range travel put a big dampener on the spirits of the West Galactic Federation, and on 1st January 2013, it was decided to take a break from the game until Haxus had implemented some new fixes and features.
It was predicted the wait would be about 5 months until some solid progress was made.
