Translate SoH with the communauty

#1
Hello,

Would it be possible to provide in the game files a file in .txt format with all the texts of the content in the game with for example this format:

"Original text" = "Translated text"

Indeed, among the problems that may push some new players away from playing SoH, there is the great complexity of the game which can be made worse by the language barrier. And in the French Empire, we know something about it, in 9 years of existence, we had more than 100 members who even if they had good notions of English, still appreciated the explanations in French of experienced players.

(Yes, I was too lazy to take the time to write this message in good English, suddenly I use this good old google translation, I leave you the message in French below for your general culture ^^ )

In french:

Serait-il possible de fournir dans les fichiers du jeu un fichier au format .txt avec tous les textes du contenu dans le jeu avec par exemple ce format:

"Texte original" = "Texte traduit"

I know we have player form many different country it would be nice if the game was translated in many language.

Rip, I not sure saying you were lazy and use google translate to post a message saying the community could translate the game was the best idea to convince Haxus. (Sorry I couldn't resist righting this) :D

And french transduction (with OUT using google) :P

Je sais que nous avons des joueurs de plusieurs pays différent et sa serais bien si le jeu étais traduit dans plusieurs langue.

Rip, je ne suis pas sur que de dire que tu est paresseux et que tu a utiliser le traducteur Google pour publier ton message soie la meilleur façons de convaincre Haxus. (Désolé je n'ai pas pue résister a écrire ceci) :D

Et traduit en français (sans utiliser Google) :P

Just patch the game, there is a lot of code but some parts are dead code, some is server-side code but in client. You can easily modify strings.

Well most peoples wouldn't be able to do that.
Having the texts in XML for easy way of translating is actually a common practice nowaday for indie devs, as it give them the possibility to get free translations done by the comunity.
Its a huge gain of time for the devs, its free (translation services cost an arm), and you usually end up with many languages avaible in your game.
Translated games attract more peoples too, so its a win win situation.

As the game intend to release on steam i highly advise to work on the translations (as many others aspects) if Haxus hope to get some good return there.
I understand it add workload, but steam benefits can be huge as well as poorly prepared steam releases can lead to disasters.
Hazeron being such a great game i would love to see it work and get a nice and stable community, and propers translations would be a huge help to this.

I totally agree with that but Haxus refuse any help from the community, even from "side quest" config or code.

If my memory serves me right I asked the same thing (directly to Haxus) in 2013. Still waiting...

Bumping this.

I wonder if there's a way for Haxus to easily and quickly put all the in-game text into some community translation site (don't remember their names).

That way people could slowly help translate the game in any language.

I use Qt for all my development. They have a tag for all strings that are intended to be translated. It looks kind of like this tr("Text that should be translated"). Every string of text in the Hazeron software is bracketed like that.

That is a big first step but I've never taken it any further than that. I haven't researched what is required to go to the next step.

Fwiw, there is not much for "dead" code. Most all server-only code is not built into the client software.

I added a to-do list item to explore this a bit more.

I am almost finished putting the hooks in to support translations.

The Qt Linguist program is used to perform the translation. It is free on Linux. I don't know about Windows.

If anyone is interested speak up. I'll send you the files to load in Qt Linguist. You translate them and send them back. It's a ton of work. This can be done bit by bit. You don't have to translate the entire thing.
