I think it would be cool if the customizations could be saved to an in-game media, rather than external files. Would just make it slightly easier to use.

Of course it might be annoying if you die and lose the media, but it is not like these customizations are hard to re-create if you lose them, and it is easy to make backups in-game by duplicating the media item's content onto another.
