There is an option in the settings to hide your body's head from your own perspective. This is also what other games usually do, I just don't think it is on by default here.
Go to the Scene tap on the Settings window. At the very top, the dropdown box that says "Draw Full Body", change that.

Maybe this should be default set to not draw your avatar's head when in first-person perspective?
