Shores of Hazeron Development Resumed
#11
My offer to buy the source code for $27 AUD still stands.

I don't see the point in gatekeeping it. We already have a geriatric incumbent presiding over the game, why do we need some other appointed asshole? (especially one we have never heard of).

Could have at least appointed Deantwo, or someone (actually known) to handle PR's , with an actual open source release and not whatever the hell this is.

Anyway, good to see that haxus is still alive and looking forward to whatever nonsense comes next.

Wow, I just had the random thought on how you were going on Haxus, saw "Last active: yesterday" and I was entirely taken in shock to find this post!

Very glad to hear from you, and about this great news! The game has always had a bit of a soft spot for me, as it certainly has for you :)

Dev-wise, I'd 1000% love to have a look at the intricate thing that is this repository, mostly out of sheer curiosity, but also because development is still somewhat fun to me occasionally! But I must admit to have switched over mostly to Agentic coding in various (quite successful) ways that may also be workable on a much smaller, limited scale in here, with mainly focusing on the performance and stability aspects of SoH. I'd love to hear more about this github repository if possible, I am also equally awful at github.

Hey fatass. Bring the old designer back, or revolt might happen ୧༼ಠ益ಠ༽୨

Hello Haxus! Hope you've been well and thanks for the update.

Thanks for confirming, the community was a bit unsure whether what Andar was saying was true, so it's good to have confirmation.

I wanted to ask: I have a copy of the source from when Andar gave me read-only repository access, and I was wondering if you'd still be okay with me working on my copy? I've been following the license you made for it but it's good to verify, since it's your baby and all. I've mainly made quality-of-life changes and various UI improvements, along with getting the old webtools working.

I was also considering sharing it privately with a few community members who were involved with OpenShores so we can work on it as a group, if you'd be okay with that.

Hi Haxus,

Nice to hear from you. I was not there when Andar was talking on the Discord. Did dome backtracking myself though, and it made me highly skeptical, which I also mentioned to some people I spoke to around the time. I respect your decision, even though I have to concur with a lot of the other sentiments here and having this be community and voluntary run project would be best.

It will always be your creation. Having it actively developed by the community, allowing forks under the same license will not change any if that. In fact, it will allow others to see the wonders we have seen in the game.

My current work schedules do not permit me to invest as much time in Hazeron (or Haxusron as I would sometimes call it), but I would love to show others the wondrous world I experienced for over 10 years.

As others have said, I think Deantwo would have been one of the most balanced decisions to appoint for this. He is considered nonoffensive to anybody (well, maybe FE in the last universe. But I guess they just wanted the yiffweave). He also has managed to keep a cool head in most situations. Or at least, made the wise decision to stay out of any drama and lolplomacy.

Either way, the fun times I had I will never forget.

Happy to see you around, Haxus, and pretty happy to see some life around the game again.

I'm no longer interested if deantwo is on the dev team. As for the others, I'm still not sure; it may or may not be a good thing. Hazeron is Haxus's masterpiece, unpolished, sometimes bugged, but always built with freedom in mind. Please don't oversimplify it or corrupt its vision in any way.

I have been working with Andar Aevaneur to set up the source code repository on GitHub. This was a bit of a challenge because I never used GitHub before. It is there now. I can pull the source and build every aspect of the project without errors, though a few warnings popped up since the last build. I don't like warnings and I don't usually tolerate very many.

Andar is heading up the project. He will be deciding who works on Shores of Hazeron and who gains access to the source code. At present he is getting things lined up to his satisfaction. Please be patient. Shores of Hazeron is not a small project.

I do not intend to resume working on Shores of Hazeron full time. However there are a few small things I plan to do.
  • Yeet bug. I will backport the yeet bug fix from Hazeron Starship to SoH.
  • Hazeron Starship received a year of development after SoH stopped. The .SoH ship design files are no longer compatible due to the addition of two more design elements. I plan to backport those changes so Shores of Hazeron will be able to load the spacecraft and buildings designed using Hazeron Starship.

Also I noticed the last multiplayer build of Shores of Hazeron still had patents. I completely removed them from Hazeron Starship because they were dull and boring. Do you want them completely removed from Shores of Hazeron?

I look forward to the day the Shores of Hazeron servers are back online. I hope to see you all there.

Really glad you are willing let someone take over this project you put love into. I wish some other games indie devs would do same thing when they know they are not going to continue it. Thanks for all time you put into this Haxus.
