The Federation of Border Worlds
The Federation of Border Worlds was an empire which was located in a very remote part of the galaxy. It was in several shapes and forms during its existence, later reforming as the Border Worlds Alliance. It used the Dictatorship government type, required invitation to join, and controlled 13 sectors at its height.
Formation
The Federation of Border Worlds was formed in spring 2011. The empire achieved interstellar flight fairly quickly due to the rich resources of the homeworld. Within no time 7 systems had large Federation of Border Worlds colonies in them. There was no warfare involved so far due to the remote location of the Federation.
History
Not long after achieving interstellar travel technology, the Federation started sending out science expeditions on long trips to map solar systems in search for civilisations, resources and other things. At first, no signs of civilisation was detected in the nearby stellar neighbourhood. But as time progressed, some indigenous species started to create something called civilisation. There were 4 initial empires forming. Each of them was offered the same thing: In exchange for a mutual defence pact, every member would receive development assistance and free flow of resources. The Border Worlds Alliance was formed.
The Nausica War
The Nausica War was a short but bloody war which none of both sides had initially intended to fight. The Nausica War was named after the sector where the affected colonies were located. An empire located there was ridden with illness and disease, and these pathogens had flowed several times to Border Worlds Alliance worlds through trading vessels. Knowing that this would be a big risk to the entire sector, the Federation of Border Worlds commissioned its first warfleet and sent them to the systems. The war was short but bloody. Most Federation of Border Worlds soldiers died due to illness instead of enemy gunfire. After the conquest, effort was made to quickly develop vaccines and the illness ridden worlds were cured. Most of these worlds were transferred to a nearby empire called Chalis Free State, which was a member of the Border Worlds Alliance.
Golden Age
After this brief period of conflict, the Border Worlds Alliance saw a lot of growth, becoming one of the major galactic powerhouses. There were 3 main empires in it, named Federation of Border Worlds, Chalis Free State and Republic of Athens. There were several other members, however most of the names have been lost to the sands of time. The Border Worlds Alliance reached a very highly advanced stage in terms of economical, military and technological development. So much that even the other major galactic powerhouses started to take interest in them. The Border Worlds Alliance were eventually invited to join The Hazeron Commonwealth.
Decline and Fall
The collapse of the Border Worlds Alliance started during the Pirate Crisis. Very advanced pirate raiders started roaming the trade routes. There were no trade ships capable of fighting them, and without the trade between member empires, each empire would quickly lose its advanced shipbuilding capabilities. Not long thereafter, the empires had regressed in terms of technology so much that they couldn't even maintain a single colony. Afterwards, the Border Worlds Alliance was lost to the sands of time. The last remaining well-equipped member was the Republic of Athens.
Some refugees from the Federation of Border Worlds would later on reform an interstellar empire known as the Border Worlds Alliance.
