The genesis device was a tool which could replace all DNA on a world with the DNA stored within it. Activation of one would kill all populations on the world.

To use the genesis device, DNA samples and seeds for each possible living being on a planet.

There are 10 different biomes for animals:

  • Highland Forest
  • Highland Savanna
  • Highland Desert
  • Lowland Forest
  • Lowland Savanna
  • Lowland Desert
  • Sea Level Forest
  • Sea Level Savanna
  • Sea Level Desert
  • Underwater

Each biomes require 7 animals in specific ecological roles:

Of each of the animals above, there are 3 types, one for each time of day:

  • Nocturnal
  • Crepuscular
  • Diurnal

This totals to (10 * 7 * 3) 210 animal DNA samples.

There are 3 climates on a planet:

  • Polar
  • Temperate
  • Tropical

First each climate has a ground cover:

Each climate has 11 shrub types:

This totals to (3 * (1 + 11 + 6)) 54 seeds.

Genesis Device
A Star Trek-ish genesis device might be fun.
Genesis device added. It has slots for storing sentient DNA and all of the animal and plant DNA needed for a resource zone of a world. This one's been on the to-do list for a long time (years).
  • Activation is enabled when all sentient, fauna and flora DNA slots are ready.
  • Activating the genesis device causes you to drop it where you are standing.
  • Activation sequence cannot be halted once it is started.
  • An activated genesis device cannot be picked up but it can be destroyed.
  • After five minutes, the genesis device detonates.
  • All unprotected living things in the resource zone are killed.
  • Sentient race, fauna and flora DNA in the resource zone are replaced by the DNA in the genesis device.
  • DNA of existing creatures is unaffected.
  • City populations in the resource zone are reduced by 90% to 100%, if atmosphere is breathable. The populace is considered to be protected by city enclosures in harsh environments.
  • Citizen DNA of cities in the resource zone is set to the new sentient DNA, in cities with a population of zero.
