A bank is required in order for a city to collect taxes from its citizens, as well as sending tribute to the capital city.

Banks can be setup to mint cronodollars, which is required to start the city's economy.

Banks also allow an avatar to collect government debt and request loans.

The quality of the bank makes no difference.

Bank Management

When at a bank, it is possible to loan money and manage the city's treasury using the City (F10) window's Bank tab.

Still better than an ATM.
