Currently using nav lens for holographic glow, so if the nav lights are off all holos on the ship will be dim.

You could achieve that effect with a texture. No need to use nav lights unless you want the glow sprite to act like a sprite and always face the eye/camera.

Here is an example.

The top face of the box was simply textured with a spot that fades to transparency. You can find textures like this by searching the Internet.

To make the surface blend properly, I had to assign it a little transparency. 1% in this case.

To make it glow bright all the time, I set its self illumination to 100%.

To change its color, apply paint.

The spot texture is the one used to make the glow of the nav lights. I added the spot texture to the default Decals palette, so you don't have to waste a texture palette entry on a light spot. It will be in the next client update.

Haxus, I tried your suggestion of using a fade texture for the glow.
-snip- nevermind I see it now.
Is there any chance you could add something similar to this to sprites as well?

Here are the results.
