Installation of system modules and install/removal of parts now works on the new ship designs.
  • The design must have appropriate service panels, to get at some systems that are not otherwise represented in the design.
  • The message now reports what system was affected.

Did you add a service panel for C&C yet? As in the "Central Computer System", "Hal900" or whatever. ^^;

Service panels access systems that exist only as hull volume allocation, to give them a presence in the model. No hull volume is attributed to a central computer system in SoH ship designs.

The computers are in the consoles, as a component of their manufacture. There is no central computer; they are networked.

A design could be made with the appearance of a central computer room, with a command station for access, like the one aboard Nostromo in Alien.

Your smart phone is vastly more powerful than HAL9000, in MIPS per Kg. Computers were still big monolithic things back in the 60/70's, when 2001 A Space Odyssey and Star Trek were made. How big is the computer of the future? Is it a centralized system, with access terminals, or a distributed system, as we have today?

A modern automobile has no central computer system. Instead, each system has embedded computers. Engine, transmission, navigation, communications, climate control all have their own computers.

The ship itself is a "computer", I see no reason to believe otherwise. :)

And in regard to command and control modules - just apply it to any service panel, doesn't matter.

Old spacecraft do not seem to load vehicles at all anymore. Checkbox doesn't seem to matter.
Or maybe it is related to this being a ship i have respawned a number of times?
