disable the "grid follows work" button and it will stay in place ..there is no axis view feature or zoom though, only walk.
I plan on living forever ..so far so good!

I agree, I haven't worked much, but when I tried to Move or place vertices along the z axis, could not figure it out.


There is. The button next to the "Move Grid" button allows you to position the X and Y axis in any direction. It's how I've positioned the grid to be vertical or at a funny angle, and it's very helpful
