2016-08-11 Windows 32 bit SoH is Back

Postby Haxus » Thu Aug 11, 2016 12:30 pm

The Windows 32 bit SoH has been restored to the build lineup.

I did some basic testing with it. Installed on a 64 bit computer, it loaded up and ran fine. The scene appeared correctly. It felt like the performance was slightly better than the 64 bit version on that same computer.

The code is all the same. Nothing is left out of the 32 bit build. There is no functional or visual difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit builds.

Something isn't right.
I'm trying to change program files location before downloading the actual client, but launcher crashes when I click "Ok".

---------------------------
OpenGL Compatibility Failure
---------------------------
OpenGL 3.2 functions could not be initialized. This is usually because the computer's video device does not support the version of OpenGL needed to run this software.

An updated video driver may fix the problem. The generic video driver distributed with most operating systems is not usually adequate. You should visit the web site of the manufacturer of your graphics processor to get the best driver.

The current video device says it supports the following OpenGL versions:

OpenGL 1.0
OpenGL 1.1
OpenGL 1.2
OpenGL 1.3
OpenGL 1.4
OpenGL 1.5
OpenGL 2.0
OpenGL 2.1
OpenGL 3.0

Without OpenGL, the game scene cannot be painted on the screen. This program must exit.
---------------------------
Abort
---------------------------

Bummer. :'(

Windows versions are updated. You will need to download a new launcher.

I will try building an OpenGL 3.0 version for Windows.

Don't get your hopes up. A memory cell is telling me that something is not going to work, without giving me any specifics.

UPDATE: Total failure.

If you were going to install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions on the same computer, it would be efficient to have them share the same temporary files folder.

Naw, don't give it too much of your time. I was just trying it out of curiosity.
This is a low-cost notebook with an Intel Atom N2700 chip. I have doubts it would run anything serious, but I'll try Linux version next time I have some time.
May be Mesa would be more forgiving.

It only took a moment to discover there was no going back. A large number of function calls were added. I am not sure (without looking) that programmable shaders were supported in 3.0, based on the errors I observed.
