I thought we had discussed "refining" of resources many times by now, and I still don't see the point. If you can make worthless junk valuable, why would you ever search for something better?

Sure, but if your opening post is too vague, no one will know what you are talking about or people might each start discussing different things. Vagueness lead to misunderstandings.
I will agree that a very detailed idea can be bad too. But at least they won't become strange discussions full of misunderstandings and arguments.
